Adolph Vanden Branden was born on November
7, 1890 in De Pere, Wisconsin. He was the eldest child of August Vanden
Branden & Joanna Madereel, both of whom had immigrated to the United States in
1888 from Belgium.
Adolph was living with his parents and
siblings in a rented house in Allouez in 1900, although the family moved to a
farm in De Pere prior to 1910. In 1910 Adolph was working as a laborer in
a warehouse.
When World War I broke out, both Adolph
and his brother Joseph went to fight. It is believed that Adolph suffered
Mustard gas poisoning during his service which would affect him throughout the
remainder of his life.
When Adolph returned from war he again
lived with his parents. He always did odd jobs and in 1920 was working as
a laborer on a neighbor's farm. In 1930 he was living with his parents in
their De Pere home on Chicago Street working as a general laborer.
Adolph's father died in 1936, after which
he and his mother went to live with his sister Mathilda, her husband H. Louis
Albers and their family, who also lived in De Pere. Adolph's mother died
in 1942, and Adolph continued to live with the Albers family, although in 1950
Adolph was living with his brother, Henry and his family at 1027 Forest, in
Racine, Wisconsin. At some point he moved back in with the H. Louis Albers
family in DePere until they could no
longer care for him and he went to live in an assisted living center.
On December 27, 1964 Adolph died at
Guardian Angel Nursing Home in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He is buried in Mount
Calvary Cemetery in De Pere along side his nephew, Clarence Albers, with
Adolph's sister Mathilda & her husband H. Louis Albers.
