Raymond Vande Castle was born on August 31, 1886 in De Pere, Wisconsin, the son of Edward Vande Casteele & Mary Dundon.  His mother died when he was 19, in 1905 at which time he was living at home with his parents in De Pere and working as a printer for his father.  By 1910 Ray's father, Edward, had moved to Washington, D.C. and Ray was living with his sisters Agnes & Clara, and brother, Edward, on Oneida Street in De Pere, Wisconsin still working as a printer.

In 1911 Ray entered the employ of the publisher of the De Pere Journal-Democrat where he worked throughout his life.  Also in 1911 Ray married Mary Amelia Vande Walle and their first child, Paul, was born in 1912.  They had 4 more children before 1920 at which time they were living on Oneida Street in De Pere with Ray continuing to work as a printer.  By 1930 Ray & Mary had two more children, Jerome & Mary, and the entire family was living at 69 Reid Street in De Pere.  Ray was then a linotype operator.

During his lifetime, Ray had also served as a trustee of St. Boniface Parish in De Pere.

On August 6, 1932, about a month before his 46th birthday, Ray passed away from arterio-sclerosis.  He is buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, De Pere, Wisconsin.
