Joanna Albers was born June 28, 1857 in Schottheide, Riga Province, Prussia, the eighth of thirteen children of Gerhard Albers and Joanna Albers.  The first five of Joanna's brothers and sisters died in their childhood years.

In about 1883 Joanna immigrated to De Pere, Wisconsin in the United States, probably with her sister, Petronella, and her father Gerhard (George).  Their mother had passed away in 1873.  Her brother, Henry, had immigrated a few years earlier, in 1880, to the same area.  On October 30, 1883, relatively shortly after arriving, Joanna married John Mooren, who had come to the area in 1882.  By 1900 Joanna & John owned a farm in the Town of Lawrence, in Brown County, Wisconsin and were living there with their six children.  In May 1910, Joanna & John were still living on the farm, but only with George, Catherine & Elizabeth.

Either later in 1910 or in 1911 Joanna & John moved to De Pere.  In January 1920 Joanna and John were retired and living on Grant Street in De Pere with their two youngest daughters, Catherine & Elizabeth.   On February 28, 1920 their youngest daughter, Elizabeth, died in a Milwaukee hospital.  In 1930 Joanna & John were living at 416 Reid Street in De Pere along with their daughter Catherine.

On July 21, 1931 Joanna's husband, John, died at their home in De Pere at the age of 74.  Joanna stayed at the house on Reid Street.  In October 1936 Joanna fell and fractured her hip, she never fully recovered.  On December 28, 1936 Joanna died from complications from her hip fracture.
