Henry Albers was born October 10, 1855 in
Schottheide, Riga Province, Prussia, the seventh of thirteen children of Gerhard
Albers and Joanna Albers and the second to bear the name Henry as the first
Henry died when he was nearly two years old in 1852. It was a common
custom of the time to "reuse" names. The first five of Henry's brothers
and sisters died in their childhood years.
In 1880, Henry immigrated to the United
States, and on November 25, 1884 he married Helena Roffers at St. Boniface
Church in De Pere, Wisconsin. They had one child, George, in 1887.
On May 5, 1889 Henry's wife, Helena, died.
Henry was working as a brick maker when on
April 16, 1890 he married Lucy Vande Casteele at St. Boniface Church in De Pere,
Wisconsin.
Henry & Lucy's first child, a son, Hubert
Louis, was born in 1892 and a daughter, Florence, followed in 1895. In
1900 the family, including George from Henry's first marriage, were living in
Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, where Henry was working as a brick yard foreman.
Eleven borders, who were laborers in the brick yard, were also living with them.
By 1910, Henry, Lucy, George, H. Louis, & Florence were living on a small farm
in De Pere. George & H. Louis worked as brick makers in a brick yard while
Henry gardened. In 1920 Henry & Lucy were still living in De Pere, and
living with them were their daughter, Florence, and her husband Raphael Terrien.
On May 17, 1929 Lucy, Henry's wife, passed
away from a stroke. In 1930 Henry was living with his son H. Louis and his
family on the Albers homestead on Fort Howard Avenue in De Pere. Henry was
retired by that time. Sometime in the 1930's Henry moved to Muskegon,
Michigan to live with his daughter Florence and her husband, Raphael Terrien and
family. Henry died on January 29, 1938 in Muskegon and is buried in Mount
Calvary Cemetery in De Pere, Wisconsin.
